Statement of international solidarity from the General Secretariat of the World Federation of Teachers’ Unions (FISE), affiliated with the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), following the national general strike in India on Thursday, February 12, 2026, launched by Indian trade union federations.

FISE expresses its fullest solidarity with education workers, workers in all sectors, and the Indian working class on the national general strike of Thursday, February 12, 2026, launched by ten Indian trade union federations. The FISE fully supports the just demands put forward by this historic mobilization, which aim to:

  1. Defend the social and trade union rights of the working class, workers, farmers, peasants, agricultural laborers, and the people of India;
  2. Fight against attacks on working conditions and social protections;
  3. Fight against the government of Narendra Modi, which has adopted and notified four labor codes (replacing 29 labor laws and related legislation of the Indian Parliament) designed to severely undermine the right to freedom of association, the right to collective bargaining, and the right to strike;
  4. Demand the outright repeal of these anti-worker labor codes with the “Shram Shakti Niti, 2025”
  5. Fight against the continued privatization and sale, for the benefit of Indian and foreign capitalists, of all strategic public enterprises and public services: railways, ports and docks, coal mines, oil, steel, defense, roads, airports, banks, insurance, telecommunications, postal services, nuclear energy, electricity production and supply, etc.
  6. Fight against the commercialization of education and healthcare.
  7. 7. Fight to promote an education system and a world of work based on dignity, equality, and social justice.

International solidarity of the working class and its allies is a cornerstone of our movement.

As the World Federation of Teachers’ Unions, FISE calls on all its affiliated organizations to demonstrate their support for the general strike of February 12, 2026, and thus strengthen unity and the collective struggle for the rights of peoples and workers worldwide.

For the FISE General Secretariat
