Solidarity is the tenderness of the people,” is the phrase used by Nicaraguan poet Gioconda Belli to express the importance of building peaceful and supportive relationships. This is no different among unions and organizations that have united for years in the vindication of the labor and human rights of our members.

Today, Section XVIII of the National Coordinator of Education Workers, in compliance with its duties in defense of these labor rights so that they truly dignify the teachers of Michoacán and the entire nation, and after an extensive process of analysis through its representative state assemblies, launching a first 24-hour general strike, a second 24-hour general strike, and a third 48-hour general strike without receiving responses to its just demands from the corresponding state and/or federal authorities, has resolved to launch an INDEFINITE WORK STRIKE starting next Wednesday, May 28 of this year, in vindication of its just demands:

A reform to the ISSSTE law that guarantees a dignified retirement, eliminating individual accounts to return to the solidarity retirement system with collective bargaining and union participation as a mediation to achieve a dignified retirement at 100% of salary and benefits, considering the service age of 28 years for teachers and 30 years for male teachers, for male teachers. Payment of retirees’ salaries is based on minimum wages and not on UMAS wages.

The immediate repeal of the SICAMM Law, which affects our job security and definitively violates union participation, which has the responsibility to defend workers’ historically earned rights.

A 100% salary increase directly to the base salary (items 07 federal and 01 state), reflecting our importance in society and the value of our work, as well as the recovery of the loss of purchasing power over the last 30 years.

Labor rights for state system workers, including the unfreezing of positions and regularization of all our colleagues who are experiencing administrative irregularities by the state Secretary of Education.

Immediate payment and base pay for our colleagues for temporary services and alternative education programs.

We express our full support for their struggle and our unquestionable solidarity with Section XVIII and its General Secretary, Professor Jairo Antonio Mandujano Ortega.

ENOUGH OF MORE BROKEN PROMISES!

FRATERNALLY
