HANDS OFF VENEZUELA – SOLIDARITY TO ITS PEOPLE

FISE, the World Federation of Teachers Union, an affiliated member of WFTU, denounces the generalized military attack by the United States against Venezuela, which began in the early hours of January 3 with airstrikes in Caracas and other areas of the country.

The real background of the attack is the implementation of the revised Monroe Doctrine, with which the USA is attempting to impose its sovereignty in Latin America, treating the entire region as a zone of exclusive influence and the “backyard” of its interests. In this context, it’s the people who, once again, pays for the intensification of competition with other powerful imperialist centers, such as China and Russia.

Military operations, naval strikes, strikes on industrial installations and general military pressure demonstrate that the US does not hesitate to use any means to promote its geopolitical and economic interests. The invocation of drugs serves as a pretext, while the role of large networks operating within the United States itself is well known.

FISE expresses its full solidarity with the Venezuelan people, who have the inalienable right to determine their own path of development and social organization, without intervention, threats, exclusions and wars.

We call on all the teachers and teachers’ unions around the world to condemn the imperialist attack of the US, to oppose the policy of wars and interventions and to strengthen their solidarity with the people of Venezuela and all the peoples of Latin America.
