Statement from the General Secretariat of FISE: Solidarity with the Peoples of Iran and Lebanon
The General Secretariat of the World Federation of Teachers’ Unions (FISE), proudly affiliated with the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU FSM), expresses its firm internationalist solidarity with the Iranian and Lebanese peoples. We support their just struggle to defend their national sovereignty, dignity, and peace in the face of external pressures and hostile policies.
As a global organization representing teachers and education personnel, we reaffirm that peace, social justice, and respect for the sovereignty of nations are the indispensable pillars for the development of education and human progress.
It is on this basis that FISE:
1) Condemns the aggression and its supporters
- Strongly condemns the US-Israeli military intervention in Iran and Lebanon, launched on February 28, 2026, which is the direct cause of the devastation in the Middle East.
- Commends the unity of the Iranian people, pays tribute to their admirable resistance, and condemns the martyrdom of Supreme Leader Khamenei of Iran, and the heinous crime of the bombing of the Minab school and the barbaric massacre of more than 200 innocent students and dedicated teachers. Offers its condolences to the Iranian people;
- Denounces the complicit governments that, bolstered by strategic agreements, make their bases, ports, and airports available for military purposes. By adopting the fallacious pretexts of the United States and Israel, they become complicit in this criminal aggression.
- Exposes the hypocrisy of the aggressors: the arguments for defending rights and freedoms put forward by the murderers are cynical. They apply the law of the strongest, using the same imperialist tactics already tested in Palestine, Venezuela, Cuba, Lebanon, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria…
2) Reaffirms the rights of peoples and fundamental principles
- Solemnly reaffirms the inalienable right of the Iranian people, like that of any people, to freely determine their political, economic, and social system, without any foreign interference.
- Proclaims that dialogue, mutual respect, and international cooperation must prevail over confrontation and coercive policies. The international community must work collectively to promote peaceful coexistence and a world free from war and domination. Solidarity and Steadfastness of the Iranian Nation.
3) Calls for action and mobilization
- Considers that, faced with the danger of an escalation toward a wider imperialist war already involving 18 countries, it is the duty and the necessity for the people to take the lead. Through their struggle, they can and must influence the course of events. Imperialism is not invincible; The people have the power and the will to overthrow it.
- Calls on educators, trade unions, and all progressive organizations worldwide to strengthen their active solidarity with the Iranian and Lebanese people, and with all nations victimized by unjust aggression.
- Calls on teachers and workers, alongside the FISE and the WFTU, to stand up against NATO, the EU, and all imperialist forces.
Together, we can find a way out of this world in flames by immediately demanding:
- An end to all support for imperialist wars;
- An immediate end to imperialist barbarity;
- Yes to lasting peace, the sovereignty of peoples, and social justice in the world;
- Solidarity with the Iranian and Lebanese people, and with all oppressed peoples;
- Yes to international solidarity between teachers and workers!
- FISE reaffirms its unwavering commitment to international solidarity, peace, and the rights of workers and educators worldwide.
