The Africa Regional Council of the World Federation of Teachers’ Unions (FISE), affiliated with the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), reaffirms its commitment to the class struggle and internationalist solidarity.
Sunday, March 1, 2026
The Africa Regional Council of the World Federation of Teachers’ Unions (FISE), in accordance with the principles of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU FSM), held its meeting on Sunday, March 1, 2026. In this period marked by multiple crises and imperialist offensives, the Council strongly reaffirms its class positions and calls for unity and action from all progressive forces on the continent and around the world.
- An Uncompromising Analysis of the Global System: The Regional Council for Africa reiterates its firm opposition to all forms of occupation, war, plunder and oppression, and denounces:
- Imperialism and neo-colonialism, which, under new guises, continue to plunder Africa’s wealth, keep our continent dependent, and hinder its sovereign development.
- Fascism and the far right, which are gaining ground internationally, fueling hatred and xenophobia, and repressing social movements and democratic freedoms.
- The capitalist system as a whole, responsible for glaring inequalities, precariousness, and the destruction of global balance.
- Policies of privatizing public services, particularly in the strategic sectors of teaching and education. Education is a fundamental human right and a common good, and cannot be subjected to the laws of the market, commodities, and financial profitability.
- Active solidarity with peoples in struggle; The Council expresses its strong condemnation of the military air attack, since the morning of Saturday, February 28, 2026, on the Iranian people by American imperialism and the criminal Israeli occupation state;
The Council commends the heroic resistance of peoples and reaffirms its unwavering solidarity with:
- The Palestinian people in their struggle for freedom and against occupation, genocide, and apartheid.
- The people of Sudan, victims of a war tearing the country apart, and we call for a just and lasting peace based on popular sovereignty.
- The peoples of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) in their legitimate quest for sovereignty and their fight against imperialism and terrorism.
- The people of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) stand for the integrity of their territory and against the plundering of their resources.
- Cuba and Venezuela, whose people face a criminal blockade, unilateral sanctions, and imperialist attempts at destabilization. We commend their resistance and their example of dignity and sovereignty.
- More broadly, the Council expresses its solidarity with all the peoples of the world, and particularly with the working class and education workers who, everywhere, are suffering the repercussions of crises and fighting for a better future.
- For a Mass, Class-Based, Emancipatory Unionism and democratic trade unionism
Faced with these challenges, the FISE Regional Council for Africa calls for the building and strengthening of a class-based, emancipatory, and democratic mass trade unionism.
We welcome and encourage all initiatives aimed at:
- Uniting and organizing the working class and education workers، from early childhood to higher education and research.
- Defending the material and moral interests of staff against all forms of exploitation and precarious employment.
- Transform educational and training institutions into spaces for raising awareness and empowering workers
The Council fervently applauds the struggles waged by education workers on the continent and around the world for emancipation, freedom, dignity, social justice, equality, and equity.
These struggles are inseparable from the global fight against capitalism.
The FISE Africa Regional Council calls upon all its affiliated organizations, all progressive unions, and all the vital forces of the continent to intensify the coordination of our actions and to strengthen our ranks within the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU FSM).
Together, let us build the school of emancipation! Long live the internationalist solidarity of workers!
Long live the struggle of the peoples of Africa for their sovereignty!
