PRESS RELEASE
Solidarity with Markos Bekris, president of the ENEDEP dockworkers’ union in Piraeus
Markos Bekris, president of the ENEDEP union, which dynamically represents
the dockworkers of Piraeus, is on trial in Greece. The union president is
accused of organizing and preventing the shipment of bullets a year ago that
were to be loaded onto a ship bound for the port of Haifa in Israel.
FISE supports the initiative of president Markos Bekris and the successful
action of the ENEDEP union. Preventing the shipment of weapons clearly
intended for the massacre of a people is an act of peace and an obligation for
all of us. On the contrary, allowing murderous bullets to be transported
between countries is a crime, and we do not consent to it.
The World Federation of Teachers' Unions FISE, member of the WFTU,
expresses its unreserved support and solidarity with president Markos Bekris
and the ENEDEP union, demands an immediate end to the persecution and
the withdrawal of the charges against him.
Hands off those who fight against imperialist wars!
Freedom for Palestine!
